Judge J. Miles Hanisee: The Best New Mexico Court of Appeals Candidate
There are only two ways to get on the New Mexico Court of Appeals:
But only one of these puts a judge on the Court of Appeals for the full 8-year term: general election.
Judge J. Miles Hanisee was appointed by Governor Susana Martinez to the New Mexico Court of Appeals in July 2011. He is now a candidate for the position hoping to continue his service to the people of New Mexico.
Why Judge Hanisee is the Best Candidate
By the time the general elections roll around, there are likely to be only two candidates for the New Mexico Court of Appeals position. Judge Hanisee is the best candidate for the position because:
- He is ethical.
- He has balanced legal experience.
- He brings a unique perspective to the court.
- He is committed to protecting citizens’ Constitutional rights.
- He is already doing the job.
Judge Hanisee’s legal background has earned him recognition from the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Department of Veterans Affairs for his work on prosecutions significant to federal law enforcement.
Judge Hanisee’s character has been commended by colleagues. At Judge Hanisee’s investiture ceremony, longtime prosecutive colleague and Albuquerque attorney Greg Fouratt declared that:
“His legal abilities are superb [and]…[he] will never forget that most of the names on either side of the ‘versus’ in the case caption belong to human beings.”*
Fellow Judge Michael Vigil said that through his criminal prosecution and defense experience:
“[The New Mexico Court of Appeals] have seen his honesty, integrity and courage. We’re very lucky to have him here, and we are looking forward to him being here for a long time.”*
