Judge J. Miles Hanisee: A Judge with a Unique Perspective
When you sit in the same place, you get the same view. That can happen for lawyers, too. When lawyers practice only one kind of law, only defend or only prosecute, or only practice civil law, they see the same things over and over—the same kinds of cases, the same approaches to disputes, the same arguments, the same side of the courtroom.
But Judge J. Miles Hanisee’s balanced legal experience gives him a unique perspective.

Seeing the Human Side of the Docket
Judge Hanisee’s legal background has allowed him to work with victims of violent crime across the state. He knows that real people are affected by crimes and civil infractions and the outcomes of the decisions made about those issues in courtrooms. Judge Hanisee’s unique perspective was noted during his investiture ceremony by former colleague and Albuquerque attorney Greg Fouratt: “Most importantly, to the litigants and the people of New Mexico, [Judge Hanisee] will never forget that most of the names on either side of the ‘versus’ in the case caption belong to human beings.”*
